Artist Biography
Kenia Arellano is a Mexican-American artist whose bicultural identity influences the artwork she creates. She spends most of the year as a Studio Art undergrad at Appalachian State University and part of the year visiting family in Mexico. Time in Mexico is spent surrounded by the culture, where Catholicism, community, and family are highly valued. The principles and aesthetics from Mexican customs often inspire her art pieces. Arellano creates metal sculptures and jewelry, along with paintings and drawings. Both share common themes of identity, religion, family, and culture.
Aside from art making, Arellano is often found reading, writing, playing instruments, dancing, videogaming, or singing karaoke. She loves losing herself in fictional stories and is self-teaching to play violin and piano. Her go-to karaoke song is Careless Whisper.
